Pride of Place

A new project where everyone can get involved

Wycombe Environment Centre is excited to announce the launch of the "Pride of Place" project! Through workshops and activities, the project will inspire us to see how, in small ways, we can make a big difference together, while having fun with other people!

There will be lots of opportunity to learn new skills, under three broad themes:

  • Nurture nature: outdoor activities giving Wycombe’s nature a practical helping hand, with its wooded valleys and The River Wye (an internationally rare chalk stream)

  • Everyday living: saving money through repairing, growing and cooking, rather than buying new

  • Understanding more: developing a deeper understanding of how our behaviours have an impact on the planet that we all depend on including some ‘train the trainer’ workshops

Recent polling showed that 89% of us want to see more action on climate change and biodiversity loss – the Pride of Place project is for those of us in that 89%! In all the Pride of Place activities there will be opportunities to learn how the way we live can help the wonderful planet we all depend on.

We all know that we feel better about a place when it is cared for and if we care for the place we live in – our Wycombe – we will find we are caring for our World too: “think global, act local” – it’s true!

  • Get Involved: Join local workshops and talks on waste reduction, composting, food preserving, recycling, conservation, and even sustainable travel. Let's learn together!

Live Sustainably: Think globally, act locally! Help fight climate change and show pride in your community.

Team Up: We're partnering with local groups like Chiltern Rangers, and Wycombe Friends of the Earth to bring you these exciting activities.

  • A steering group of local people will guide the project, and we'll have workshops led by awesome partners like Grow Together Bucks, Khepera, and the Wycombe & District Beekeepers Association. Plus, we'll keep supporting ongoing activities like litter picking and conservation efforts.

  • Education is key! We'll be working with schools and community groups to turn learning into action. And with our "train the trainer" method, you'll be able to share your new skills with others.

  • We're setting up a pilot community hub at the Chilterns Centre. This will be the go-to spot for workshops and activities, where you can learn about local environmental initiatives and find volunteer opportunities.

The Pride of Place project is a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together, learn, and take action to support our environment. We are looking forward to see the positive impact this initiative will have on our community.
